Insert regarding Beliefs
We at Sovereign Grace
Bible Church declare that our final source of faith and practice is the
inerrant and infallible Word of God, as found in the sixty-six books of the
Bible. We also accept the Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689 as an accurate
and reliable (though not inspired) expression of what the Scriptures teach and
the faith we confess1. We also concur with the doctrinal teachings
expressed in other reformed confessions such as the Belgic Confession,
Heidelberg Catechism, Second Helvetic Confession, Canons of Dort, etc.
Moreover, we believe the doctrinal truths recovered in the sixteenth century
Reformation which are summarized by the well-known sola’s: sola Sciptura, sola
fide, sola gratia, solus Christus, and soli Deo gloria2.
We are compelled to further clarify our
doctrinal position as a result of the contemporary developments of
Evangelicalism, with the following statements:
-
We believe in the Lordship of Christ.
-
We believe in the free offer of the Gospel.
-
We believe in the cessation of the revelatory
gifts.
-
We are complementarians as set forth in the
Danvers Statement3.
1
In committing ourselves to the teaching and doctrines contained in
the Confession, we do not require the adoption of every word of the Confession.
Nor do we treat every doctrine within the Confession as if it were equally
important. One may scruple over a statement here and there (i.e. whether the
Pope is the Antichrist 26:4, the use of wine in communion 30:7,or the salvation
of the mentally incompetent 10:3, etc.) and still remain true to the doctrinal
intent of the Confession. Moreover, we could not be considered as a church that
holds the sabbatarian convictions expressed in chapter 22, paragraph 7 and 8.

Cambridge
Declaration
